Unable to get past low host memory message
Unable to get past low host memory message
I can't get past the low host memory message in 2.2 - even if I reduce the memory. In previous version a resume would get me into Win7 on Vista.
Any tips - otherwise it's a reinstall of 2.1.4

Yes, use the search trick from the VirtualBox FAQ. It's discussed several times, with plenty of replies.

Re: Unable to get past low host memory message
Well, I've searched the FAQ and found nothing - so how about giving me a pointer? Thanks.

Got the same problem after switching to 2.2

So ... it's a known bug? I'll leave it until it's fixed.

Re: Unable to get past low host memory message
Having the same problem with v2.2 on XP SP3 with 2GB of memory.
No guests will run for long, before being forced to pause. They ran fine under v2.1.4 and previous.
The error details indicate low memory condition, despite plenty of memory being available.
If I attempt to un-pause the guest, it immediately re-pauses, and I cannot proceed.
This was totally unworkable, so I had to uninstall. However this didn't work right, either.
I had to choose "repair" from add/remove programs, then I was finally able to uninstall v2.2.
Now I am back on v2.1.4, and things are working again after I restored my v1.6 XML files.
It seems like this release is much more problematic than previous updates I have installed.
Perhaps I am spoiled, but the VB installer is usually smaller, and works much more smoothly.
Thanks for any advice on how to get around the installer and spurious low memory errors.

You're asked upon first run of the new version to backup the config files. They will be in your machine folder.mbl wrote:How do I restore the those v1.6 XML files?cbell wrote:

Re: Unable to get past low host memory message
It's definitely a 2.2 bug - I'm seeing it too (WinXP Pro SP3 2GB RAM host machine) and myself and others reported it in 2.2 beta 2 - but it looks like it was overlooked. I agree - it makes using Windows 7/Vista as a ghost OS nigh on impossible - on my system I can't allow more than 1GB for a VM - whereas with 2.1.4 - I could allocate about 1.3 GB RAM - which made a noticeable difference. On Windows 7, lack of memory makes the system fail during the boot process, with a Windows XP SP3 Guest OS (but allocated 1GB RAM), the system crashes shortly after the windows xp desktop appears.

The update from hell is now removed.
Thanks
Re: Unable to get past low host memory message
Anybody know how long it'll be before this gets fixed? I mean is the fix cycle for VB relatively quick?
Re: Unable to get past low host memory message
Seam problem with me,so I just reinstall 2.1.4, and I found the Guest addtionals 2.2 with 2.1.4 works fine with OpenGL Support in Ubuntu 9.04 .In fact It look like quick than 2.2

Re: Unable to get past low host memory message
I hope really soon - I did see a bugfix, with some source code, get checked in to the VBox source tree on 11 April, it looked to me, like it was addressing issues with memory managment and allocation, so it might be THE fix - but I might be wrong.

Lets hope they are talking about days not weeks on next maintenance release, don't want to roll back.2009-04-14 18:54:15 changed by frank ¶
* summary changed from HostMemoryLow to HostMemoryLow => Fixed in SVN.
We think we found the problem. The fix will be available with the next maintenance release.
