Then the Host is routing its ping via a gateway the Guest can't see or the Gateway can't find the Guest, the Host seems to use a dsl gateway.

Do a ipconfig/all again from today on Host and Guest.

Hello all,
I installed Virtual box 3.2.8 on my windows 7 machine. I then installed Centos 5.5 as a guest. Networking is functional on the guest. I can get to the internet download updates etc. The host network is also functional. I can ping the host from the guest but I cannot ping the guest from the host. I also have iptables and selinux disabled on the guest. Can you please tell me what I am missing here?

Thanks!

What is the network adapter set to? If NAT then you will not be able to ping the guest. Switch to Bridged if you have a router in the network or use host-only and then add a second adapter set to NAT for the guest to get to the Internet.
These and other neat features are explained to you in your VirtualBox users guide.

Thank you very much for your reply. You were correct the interface was set to NAT. I changed it to BRIDGED and then had to make some firewall changes in the router and now it appears to be working fine. Thank you again. I really appreciate your help!
