VB Runs our SCO Unix Server, with a minor issue

Post by hardwaremack »

Hello, i really like using VirtualBox more then the other 2 VM i have experience with,

i found the Adaptor Type, intel PRO/1000 MT Desktop (82540EM) it works with our SCO 5.05
How ever it seems that its not reliable,

when i do a ping it will flow for a about 10 to 30 seconds, then it will start to request time out for about 5 or 6 lines,
then starts to ping fine again, and so on...

this causes the application to hang waiting on the server.

i was reading a SCO PDF about some issues with intel ethernet adaptors and SCO having collision issues,
maybe its having a issue with the virtual ethernet card driver?

is there any way we could add another adaptor to the Adaptor Type, selection?
the physical ethernet card that is in the actual server is a:
3COM 3c905cx-txm
also i know this card works as well
Intel S82557 10/100

I Tried this with VirtualBox for OSX and VirtualBox for Windows7, both native os'es have the same issue
when it runs the SCO VM.

To recap,
It works, just has this intermittent ethernet hanging up issue.

if anyone has any input i would highly appreciate it!

You could try to disable APM.

But you're not writing which driver (version) is installed.
<ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/drive ... twork/eeG/>
Or the latest?
<ftp://ftp.sco.com/pub/openserver5/507/d ... eeG_5.1.2/>

All supplements (rs505a, oss495c, oss497c, oss600a, oss621b, oss629a, oss631b, oss646b, oss650a, oss652a) should be installed first.

Better to choose an officially supported emulated network adapter:
* AMD PCNet PCI II (Am79C970A)
* AMD PCNet FAST III (Am79C973)
Both are supported and certifed with OSR 5.0.5
