Hi
I have VirtualBox 3.0.6 running on a Windows 7 Professional x64 (RTM) Host.
I'd like to use my USB devices in the virtual OS but Windows is unable to install the required driver (see picture):
How can I solve the problem?

Re: Unable to install USB-driver
USB in Windows hosts is really tricky in XP, Vista worse, and well Win 7 (?)
You may need to file a ticket with bugtracker, but until the OS is actually on in the market it may be hard to get full support.

What USB device is that? My XP guest happily loaded the driver for my USB Seagate FreeAgent and can see all the files on it. Host is Windows 7 Pro x64 build 7600.

Re: Unable to install USB-driver
I have uploaded a screenshot of Windows 7 guest using a USB drive from the Win 7 Host to my web space.

Re: Unable to install USB-driver
The error appears with all USB devices. For example, the printer or USB flash drive.
Host OS version is 6.1.7600 Build 7600.

Re: Unable to install USB-driver
USB wasn't a priority for me, so I had the system working for a few days before I looked at it. Here is a summary of what I did.
Installed the guest OS and then installed the guest additions. Installed a few programs.
When I decided to try USB, I shut down the guest and enabled one USB device from the VirtualBox GUI . When I booted the guest, Windows loaded the USB driver (Installing new hardware message). This must be where your setup fails.
Now it works fine. If I click on the USB icon at the bottom of the vm window and enable the USB device, Windows connects the USB drive and displays the "Safely remove..." icon. When I finish with the drive and click on the icon, it does the usual safely remove device act, just like a "real" device. Works in both Win 7 and XP guests.

Re: [solved] Unable to install USB-driver
I'm having the same issue. I have windows 7 RTM installed as the host and I'm trying to run windows XP as the guest.
I'm not sure what BillG means by "I shut down the guest and enabled one USB device from the VirtualBox GUI ." How do you
enable only one USB device? Does this mean set a filter? I tried setting fiters but no help there. I see the windows 7
driver install fail as shown in the screenshot at the top. I also look under the guest OS in the device manager and see there
is a USB Controller which did not find the correct driver either. Any updates on this?

Re: [solved] Unable to install USB-driver
Actually the (2) ways that are suggested for USB on a Windows host.
(1) enable USB and USB2 but put no filters in the guest settings. Then start the guest and wait until everything settles down and go to the devices tab and USB and select what it is you want to use.
(2) Setup as above but put in a blank filter. The one that has the blue dot. Then start the guest and this time you unplug the device and plug it back in so the guest gets focus and it should be available.
