can't get to the cd

Postby rosen » 14. Oct 2009, 22:20

dell optiplex 740
solaris 10/2009
vbox 3.0.8
trying to install windows xp, but that doesn't matter, now that i think about it.

i have a CD and a DVD, so, effectively, a cdrom and a cdrom1 under solaris.
i go to the settings-> cd/dvd page and i can't get either the cd or dvd to be
seen by the client machine.

first i get: Failed to access the USB subsystem.

on the CD page proper there's a pulldown to select the cd drive (i presume)
but there's nothing in it. i tried following the stuff under the USB thread
but no joy.

1. do i have to fix the usb problem first? is the usb issue stopping
the CD or DVD from working?
2. can i just fix the DVD and move on?

thx.

CD/DVD drive access was broken for Solaris hosts in 3.0.8. The next maintenance release will contain the fix.

I have a fix for the USB problem. Unfortunately I have the same problem with the DVD drive, on an HP z5100.

The USB fix is: make sure that

/dev/vboxusbmon -> /devices/pseudo/vboxusbmon@0:vboxusbmon

is r/w by everyone, not just root:

# chmod a+rw vboxusbmon@0:vboxusbmon
# ll vboxusbmon@0:vboxusbmon
crw-rw-rw- 1 root sys 235, 0 May 13 09:48 vboxusbmon@0:vboxusbmon

The installer installs vboxusbmon device node with 0666 permissions. You shouldn't need to have to do this manually. Did the install fail for some reason?
